Terms of use

These terms apply to use of the Punisher website and to entry into obstacle course races and endurance challenges managed from Hekpoort, Magaliesberg. By using the site, submitting an enquiry or taking part in an event you agree to these terms and to any instructions issued on the day.

How the website and entry information may be used

The website is provided for event information, general service details and entry enquiries relating to obstacle course races, team registration help, waiver coordination and related support services. All content is intended for practical use by participants, team captains and corporate organisers, and it may change without notice where course layouts, access arrangements or safety steps need updating.

You must use the site lawfully and not try to interfere with it, copy content for resale, or submit false details in relation to an entry. Any information you provide should be accurate and current, especially names, contact details, team allocations and the person responsible for the booking. A missing detail can cause delays at check-in, so please review everything before you send it.

Entry requests, waivers and captain communication

Event entry is only confirmed once the required information has been received and processed, together with any waiver steps that apply to the event. Where a team captain is appointed, that captain is responsible for passing on instructions about heat allocation, start details, group warmup sessions and onsite team checkin.

Participants understand that obstacle racing involves running, climbing, carrying, crawling and similar physical effort. If you have any concerns about fitness, injury history or whether you should take part in hard exercise, check with a doctor before entering. This page does not give personal medical advice, and it is each participant's duty to make a sensible decision.

  • Complete waiver documents honestly and in full.
  • Read safety briefing material before race day, if it is provided in advance.
  • Tell the event team about any booking changes as early as possible.
  • Keep your team captain informed of any late arrivals or withdrawals.

What racers must bring to the venue

Each participant is responsible for bringing suitable personal items for a day outdoors in Magaliesberg or at a related venue area. Conditions can change quickly, with heat, dust, wind or muddy sections depending on the course and recent weather. Bring what you need to look after yourself before, during and after the event.

  • Closed training shoes with grip suitable for rough ground.
  • Water or a refillable bottle, if the event instructions allow it.
  • Comfortable clothing that can get wet or dirty.
  • Any required medication kept on your person and disclosed where needed.
  • Sun protection, a towel and dry clothes for recovery after the event.

Do not bring items that are unsafe on course, too valuable to carry, or likely to be damaged by mud, water or repeated movement. If an event has specific bag rules, parking limits or access rules for Hekpoort, Magaliesburg, Hartbeespoort, Krugersdorp, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Rustenburg or Potchefstroom visitors, those instructions apply.

Safety briefings, course rules and team conduct

Safety briefings are part of the event structure and may be given to individuals, team captains or grouped participants before the start. These briefings cover obstacle use, spacing, overtaking, water points, recovery areas and any local conditions affecting the course. Listen carefully and follow directions from marshals, briefing officers and other authorised staff.

Participants must act with care towards others, the venue and event equipment. No one may push, block, ignore instructions or interfere with an obstacle after being told to stop. If a marshal decides that a participant should slow down, pause or leave a section of course, that instruction must be obeyed.

  • Stay within marked course areas and support lanes only where permitted.
  • Respect recovery zones and keep them clear for people who need a break.
  • Do not use alcohol or any other substance that may affect judgement before your race.
  • Report hazards, injuries or equipment problems to staff without delay.

Limits on risk, property and race conditions

Obstacle racing and endurance challenges carry inherent risk. By attending, you accept that contact with mud, water, uneven ground, climbing structures and physical exertion may lead to discomfort, damage or injury. You also accept that weather, venue access and municipal or land-use requirements may change the shape of the day, especially where local ground conditions or regional restrictions apply.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Punisher and its operator Astros Marketing (Pty) Ltd are not responsible for loss or damage caused by a participant's own actions, failure to follow instructions, or use of unsuitable personal gear. This includes items left unattended at the venue, even if they were placed near a support area or recovery point.

Event staff may alter a course section, delay a start, cancel an obstacle or stop an activity if safety requires it. That decision can be made at any time, including during warmups or after a briefing has started. Such action does not create a right to compensation unless a written policy says otherwise.

Questions, complaints and the law that applies

If you need clarification about a booking, waiver step, corporate entry, team allocation or venue process, use the enquiry form on our contact page. That channel is the correct route for questions about event terms, and it helps the support team route your request to the right person, whether that is operations, participant support, safety, training content or corporate entries.

These terms are subject to South African law. If any part of them is ruled unlawful or not enforceable, the rest will continue to apply. Not acting on a term straight away does not mean that term has been given up.

For organised events in the Magaliesberg area and surrounding access points, we expect participants and team organisers to read the instructions that apply to their own entry. The event team may update processes from time to time, and continued use of the website or attendance at an event means those updates are accepted.
